A glowing pause in the winter sky; when thread is a connecting device between the earth and the sky. Transparent canvas of the wide-open sky form a backdrop for an ephemeral performance during Makar Sankranti.
Controlled by human hands, sparkling kites – pink, blue, yellow, green sweep and sway in infinite space as a dance in slow rhythm. Orchestrated by the release and restrain of fingers; the kites perform an un-scripted visual narrative. Blue sky is painted in ecstatic frenzy of vibrancy in an exuberant celebration; pointing out to the stars and the moon in broad daylight. Glittering kites animate the sky in a dialogue with soft breeze as they create invisible forms of multi-dimensional curves, circles, triangles.
Onlookers experience in awe a dynamic panorama – a display of dazzling adornments complementing the crisp-clear winter sky; which is soon to unfold into bright, smooth spring days. The vista is a grand kaleidoscope forming a picture-puzzle in symphony with the slow blowing wind. An effortless choreography charged with spirited vigour! Amongst the crisscross of streets, lanes and open terraces resound moods of joy and ecstasy. Once immersed in its enigmatic tempo the chaos of mundane life goes unnoticed.
No sooner, amongst the resonance of victory, a defeated kite dives down against sunlight and slow cool breeze; deeper down to carpet the ground. Once the spotlight of the sky, then touches the earth as a fallen warrior.
By dusk, the textured euphoria of the day settles down. As darkness sets in, the medley of noises steadily fades out. And with it, the lively conversation between the earth and the sky comes to a moderate standstill.
