IICD has helped me sensitize myself to the indigenous craft culture of our beautiful country, India. I developed a new perspective towards understanding design through hands-on skill and cultural influence. Being an alumnus of the fired material department of IICD and now a ceramic designer, I literally share a deep connect with the soil of the land. Through “MatiBani”, my own brand of handmade pottery, I continue my association with clay, and try my best to sensitize the society about our rich craft heritage and the importance of connecting to our roots.

It was an enriching experience at IICD. My heartfelt gratitude to the Ceramics Department, and all the mentors for making this journey worthwhile.

My experience in IICD is fulfilling and enriching. We learnt a lot on the bases of design. The purpose of any academic institution is human growth and personality development and for this I want extend my thanks to IICD and all my IIICD faculties in who brought out the tremendous development in my personality. It is a very small thing yet a very important skill to convert once sight into observation which is so important not just professionally but also helped me grow holistically, and led me to write my own story which is known by the name of eK’nama today.
eK’nama the world itself means “Ek Kahaani” which our brand strongly stands by. eK’nama deals in sustainable paper packaging, management accessories and customised packaging solutions for clients from all walks of life.

आईआईसीडी में शिल्प के नज़रिए से डिज़ाइन का अध्ययन करने के बाद भारतीय विरासत के लिए सम्मान और समझ पैदा हुई। इस समझ ने मुझे शिल्प को गुणवत्ता और डिज़ाइन के नज़रिए से देख पाने में सशक्त किया, जिसके लिए आमतौर पर “संकुचित विचारधारा” (चटाई गलीचे की बुनाई, पैचवर्क आदि) रखी जाती थी। अच्छा डिज़ाइन, जो त्रुटिहीन शिल्प कौशल की ओर ले जाता है, कारीगरों के लिए एक अच्छी आय उत्पन्न करता है, जो कि न्यूनतम आय सेे अधिक और उचित होती है। यह हमें एक विशिष्ट मूल्य प्रस्तुत करने की भी अनुमति देता है। 2018 के जनवरी में ब्रांड लॉन्च के बाद, हमारे अप-साइकल संग्रह “कट इट आउट!“ का चयन सर्कुलर डिज़ाइन चैलेंज, लेक्मे फैशन वीक की सम्मानित प्रतियोगिता (भारत का पहला प्रयास) में शीर्ष 8 में हुआ। प्रतियोगिता में 900 आवेदकों ने प्रवेश किया।

इरो इरो अब एक ज़ीरो-वेस्ट लाइफस्टाइल और फैशन ब्रांड के रूप में कार्य करता है। इरो इरो ने लेक्मे फैशन वीक, मुंबई; संकल्प अवाड्र्स, मुंबई और राजस्थान हेरिटेज वीक में अपने संग्रह प्रदर्शित किए हैं। इरो इरो सर्कुलर डिज़ाइन चैलेंज, 2019 में 900 प्रविष्टियों में से चयनित किये गए 8 फाइनलिस्टों में से एक था। यह ब्रांड लेक्सस डिज़ाइन अवार्ड, 2019 और 2020 के लिए एक फाइनलिस्ट भी रहा है।

Why I chose IICD to do my M.Voc in soft materials !!

Prior to my application to IICD I researched various textile courses all over India.From my understanding, IICD is unique in that it is the only college that specialises specifically in promoting the sustainability of Traditional Arts and Crafts of India as an integral aspect of its instructional vision and learning approach. The Rajasthan region I also discovered, has a rich source and variety of crafts including differentprinting, sewing and dying techniques within its textile traditions. Having lived in Japan for 5 years prior to coming to India, I could see similar, yet very different! craft connections between these two cultures (the traditional Ukiyo-e printing,shibori and sashiko stitching etc) and the concept of how I would like to try and fuse these cultural inspirations in the development of my design and artwork while on the course began to formulat

वियोला के उत्साह ने उसे जॉन टी. मिलिकेन विदेश यात्रा अनुदान दिलवाया, और वह 2018 में तीन महीने की अवधि के लिए भारतीय शिल्प संस्थान (आईआईसीडी) आईं। आईआईसीडी में, उन्हें शिल्प की समझ बढ़ाने के लिए विभिन्न विभागों, जैसे चमड़ा, पत्थर पर जड़ाई, तारकशी, काष्ठकला, एनामेलिंग, नीली मिट्टी के बर्तन और अन्य कई विभागों से जोड़ा गया।

IICD has given me an opportunity to develop new vision and skills. The practical design experience which we get here changes our life. Learning about Craft and techniques directly from very experienced artisan enhances our knowledge and learning design from very experienced faculty helps us to utilize those techniques in a new way.
In IICD I got very supportive Faculty members, the infrastructure which helped me in all ways to grow as a better designer.
In IICD I got skills and root knowledge about crafts and design which helped me to get International experience for my masters. IICD has given me life changing experience.

My journey started at IICD, where I gained a comprehensive understanding of product design and hands-on experience with various materials.
The unparalleled education and mentorship I received at IICD not only shaped me into a skilled designer but also empowered me to thrive in life.
Building upon this strong foundation, I pursued a master’s degree in Italy, conquering a fiercely competitive program and launching my consulting career shortly after. Our consultancy’s rapid success, including prestigious showcases like Maison et Objet Paris, underscores the impact of my continuous growth and dedication to design.
For me, design is not just a career; it’s a perpetual journey of innovation and learning. I’m immensely grateful for the transformative experience I had at IICD, which laid the groundwork for my remarkable success in the world of design.

She had come as part of the student exchange program for the Autumn (Pawas) semester to Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur. She was here from 4th October 2022 to 27th January 2023.
