Certificate Programme in Painting
The Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) offers a Certificate Programme in Painting designed to nurture creativity, visual sensitivity, and artistic expression.
This practice-based course provides learners with foundational skills, technical knowledge, and exposure to diverse painting styles, concepts, and mediums. It is ideal for aspiring artists, designers, and creative professionals seeking structured learning in the visual arts. The programme is now offered at two levels—Basic and Advanced—to accommodate learners with varying degrees of prior experience.
In addition, the programme offers flexible learning options. Interested students/applicants may choose to enrol in the complete programme or customise their learning pathway by selecting individual subject components based on their interests and skill requirements. This modular structure allows learners to build their own course of study in a way that best suits their creative goals.

VISUALIZATION & REPRESENTATION
Fundamental of art, Drawing practice based on Environment study, detailing, perspective, analytical- OF NATURE, OBJECT, SURROUNDINGS etc. (medium: pencil, pen and ink)
STILL LIFE STUDY
Object study with light - shadow, still life composition study with different type of objects, fruits, vegetables & drapery.(medium: dry and colour medium)
NATURE STUDY
Composition practice from nature, plein air landscape study. (Medium: dry, water, acrylic and oil medium)
LIFE STUDY
Proportion practice of human figure, free hand sketching of human, full figurelife study practice, portrait/portraiture.( Medium: dry, water, acrylic and oil medium)
COMPOSITION
Basic idea of creative composition, depict the emotions or concept through figurative/ non-figurative composition, portfolio development.(Medium: acrylic, oil and mix-medium)
Course Subjects (Advanced)
VISUALIZATION & REPRESENTATION
Study of architectural and natural forms using one-, two-, and three-point perspective, conceptual drawing of visual elements, and exploration of colour aesthetics and psychology across cultures using any two media.
PORTRAITURE STUDY
Portrait studies of humans or animals using chiaroscuro, exploring emotion and character, and examining how background and surroundings shape composition and narrative, using any two media.
COMPOSITION: FIGURATIVE & NON-FIGURATIVE
Understanding the artistic ideation cycle from concept to final artwork, studying Indian traditional or folk art, and developing a personal artistic style through painting using any three media.
