Labs and Workshop

Industry orientation to students is provided through the practical application of concepts. IICD Provides modern and sophisticated teaching facilities that are constantly upgraded. Each department at the institute boasts of an array of highly advanced labs and workshops that are sufficiently equipped with the latest instruments and equipment.
Computer Labs

In this era of digital transformations, the success of professionals rests on their ability to integrate design and information technology in a meaningful way. The computer labs at IICD facilitate in integrating IT design skills with academics through design softwares like Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Coreldraw, Rhino, etc. The computer labs are well equipped with state-of-theart equipment like, Desktops, Image Scanners, Wide Format Printers, Sound system, Digital Cameras, etc.

Weaving Workshop

Soft material Design Department maintains a weaving workshop that is equipped with tabletop sample looms, offering an effective integration of theoretical and practical inputs to students. The infrastructure provides a creative space for students to arrive at a holistic approach to enquiry and exploration from an individual perspective in relation to materials, processes and methods within the domain of woven structures.

Sewing Workshops

Soft Material Design and Fashion Design departments have sewing workshops with facility of more than 50 Juki and Brother stitching lock stitch machines, over lock machines, pattern cutting tables and steam irons. The students learn about different stitch types to be able to create innovative surfaces using machine texturing. They also learn basic stitching techniques for home furnishings and apparels to be able to add value to product design.

Wood Workshop

The course curriculum of Hard Material Department is highly comprehensive Design. The wood workshop houses spiral lathe, radial drill, radial saw, bad saw, lathe, fret saw, tenoning, groove making machines along with various hand tools to create wooden and Bamboo craft items. The workshop is well supported with a workshop technician to guide the students.

Dyeing & Printing Workshop

The course curriculum of Hard Material Department is highly comprehensive Design. The wood workshop houses spiral lathe, radial drill, radial saw, bad saw, lathe, fret saw, tenoning, groove making machines along with various hand tools to create wooden and Bamboo craft items. The workshop is well supported with a workshop technician to guide the students.

Pattern Making & Draping Workshop

Course disciplines imparting inputs in apparel design & apparel technology, maintain pattern making & draping workshop. These workshops are stocked with specialised pattern making tables & dress forms. The infrastructure provides an environment that allows the students to rigorously apply and contextualize concepts and processes of developing garments. These workshops facilitate in realising creativity, unique approach and innovative perspectives in relation to garment making.

Ceramic and Glass Workshop

The Fired Material department has fully functioning laboratory and workshops facility with various types of clays, minerals, oxides and chemicals required for low fired earthenware to high fired bone china. Recently glass workshop has also been added.

Metal and Stone Workshop

The metal and Stone workshop is a place where students of Hard Material Department learn the skills of stone inlay, mosaic, stone carving, metal sheet work, metal furniture and traditional craft practices. The workshop is functional with machines buffing, cutting, lathe, shaper, welding, pillar drill, pipe bending and hand tools.

Leather Sewing Facilities

IICD has equipments to facilitate cutting , stitching and leather wood.

Clay Pottery / Terracotta Workshop

The Fired Materials Department of IICD has a well established clay material workshop. Students are taught the methods and techniques to prepare clay. Traditional practices of Terracotta / Clay relief work is taught in the beginning. Students practice pottery by throwing and raising pots on the wheel.
