Were the opening statements to my presentation, but all I got was Beep… Beep… Beep… connection lost…Reconnecting.Reality of current day class, and who would have thought? Foundation classes all being held online, learning Indian crafts and communication skills through an online presentation and conversing with batch mates via chat box.
However unsatisfying and tough this situation might sound, the beginning of my college journey has been the most exciting and productive time, considering the situation.
As the first batch to attend First year classes through virtual media, it has been a rollercoaster ride- full of energy, eagerness and emotion. (online class scenario)
It all began with English skills and IT skills modules. A little unusual as per the introduction course for a foundation batch, but this plan was just perfect.
We went through introspective activities of learning how to address challenging situations, we practiced effective as well as efficient communication and most importantly we broke the ice and became comfortable unmuting and speaking up.
That was our English module where we not only got to know fun things about each other but looked within and learnt a thing or two about ourselves as well.
Alongside those classes we had an IT Skills module. Everything now being virtual this was a much-needed module. Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, a little insight into all these softwares. One of the assignments we had was a craft documentation on any craft from our home state.
Maharashtra is a fairly large state, but being from Pune I could not miss the opportunity to tell my class about Tambat, a beaten copper craft practiced intensively here. From the history, origin, process to the evolution of the craft, I tried to capture it all.
It was definitely a fantastic learning experience for me, not only to learn about the craft but also become more efficient and creative on a software we take for granted.
That was roughly our initial modules and first couple of weeks. What we learnt in this module has helped tremendously in each of the other modules we have had after that.
With every passing day and lesson, comes something new to learn and explore. With every passing day and lesson, comes different challenges but all which have a solution. With every passing day and lesson, a batch that has never met each other comes closer together.
