Dr. Toolika Gupta
Dr. Toolika Gupta
Director IICD, Dean - Product Design (RISU)

Ph.D. in History of Arts (Dress and Textiles) from the University of Glasgow, UK. She was a Ph.D. fellow with the Centre for Textile Research, Copenhagen, Denmark, and has done her M.Sc. in Textiles and Clothing from Lady Irwin College, New Delhi, India.

She started her career as a designer in 1996, moving into education as a faculty member at NIFT, New Delhi from 2005. She is a founding member and Secretary of the Textiles and Clothing Research Centre, New Delhi, www.tcrc.in. Her areas of research are Indian dress and textile history, she has written and co-edited books and papers, some of her research papers are available at https://glasgow.academia.edu/ToolikaGupta.

Since 2018, she is the Dean of Product Design and Crafts Design at the Rajasthan ILD Skills University and also a member of CII Design Committee of 2019, 20, and 21. She is also a member of FICCI entrepreneurship committee and is on the board of studies of many design institutes.

She has taught at NID in the area of Textile and Apparel Design before moving to IICD as one of the founding faculty members. She is the Ex Dean Academics of IICD and has been involved with IICD since the inception of the education program in 1999. She has more than 27 years of experience of teaching and working in the area of Craft & Design, has done several projects with the Khadi and NGO sector and also in the craft retail sector with organizations like Fab India, Rajasthali, and The Palace Atelier, at the MSMS II Museum, City Palace, Jaipur.

She is passionate about interacting with young students and helps them develop into great catalysts and change agents for the craft sector during their tenure at IICD. Her current area of interest is to work in the area of Sustainability and Sustainable Development.

Ph.D. (Design) on ‘Pattu Craft of Barmer (Raj.)’ from Banasthali Vidyapith in 2021. Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from Nottingham Trent University, UK; MBA in Marketing, B.Tech.(Textile technology) from The Technological Institute of Textiles & Sciences, Bhiwani.
She has more than 20 years of work experience in the industry as well as academics. She started her career working in a dyeing and knitting plant in 1997, thereafter worked as Textile Testing Lab In-charge in the buying office in Mumbai and as Merchandiser in export houses in Delhi. In 2005 she moved into academics as Senior Lecturer in Pearl Academy of Fashion, Jaipur. She has been working with IICD for the last 8 years. She has written research papers in National and International Journals, conducted textile workshops & training, and worked on projects. She has made conscious efforts to integrate craft and skills into education to sensitize students to the crafts.

MBA in Marketing and B.Des. in Fashion Design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi.

She has over 20 years of experience in design academics and the apparel industry. Her areas of interest are anthropology, entrepreneurship, design process, apparel range development, surface design techniques, craft clusters, elements of design, and garment construction. collective consciousness and sustainable approach to design have always been an underlying theme in all her classroom projects. Her focus has been on a socially integrated design curriculum, academic structure planning, building relations, talent mobilization, and student development. She was associated with NIFT Delhi for over 6 years in the capacity of Associate Professor in the Fashion Design department.

She has worked with organizations such as Blackberrys (Manager- Womenswear Category), Dorling Kindersley (Technical Consultant- Book on Needlecraft), Weekender (Designer- Kidswear) and executed various projects with Surajkund Crafts Mela, Chhattisgarh Handloom Development & Marketing Cooperative Federation, Education New Zealand, CBSE- Vocational Education and many more.

MA from Slade School of Fine Art, University College London; MFA from M.S. University, Vadodara, and BFA from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan.

She received a Commonwealth Scholarship to study at University College London. On a French Government Scholarship she was artist-in- residence at CAMAC, Centre d’Art, Marnay-sur- Seine, France. She did a Swiss Arts Council’s Research Residency at Lucerne School of Art & Design Switzerland. She was a recipient of Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She worked as a Resource Person with Krishnamurti Foundation, Varanasi. As an associate with an NGO Nirman, she worked in collaboration with the artisans of Banaras.

She was an Art & Design Consultant at ‘A Square Designs’- an interior design company in Kolkata, when she co-curated ‘Juxtapose’ an Art & Design show in Kolkata. She conceptualized, directed, costume-designed and performed a dance based video art – ‘Gently, into the other side of time’.

She has worked as a design practitioner, a design consultant and academician for over 15 years, in different companies & organizations and has gained experience in the areas of Home Fashion, Car Interior sectors & Traditional Crafts. With her experiences in design research and implementation phase, she establishes herself as a strategist team leader, team player and an expert in field of design education. She has various areas of expertise like surface ornamentation, illustrations, product developments and traditional crafts.

BFA in Ceramics and Pottery from Sir. J. J. School of Arts, University of Mumbai.

He started his career as a designer in 2002, moving into education as a faculty member at Raheja School of Arts, Mumbai and later in 2006 joined IICD, Jaipur as (Fired Material Design) FMD faculty. He initiated and offered FMD program in 2009-10 and became course coordinator of FMD Program. Over the years, he has worked with traditional potters from different parts of India, on various design and skill development projects. His areas of expertise are clay body & glaze development, kiln development, setting up of ceramic production methods and design process for cluster based product developments.

Dr. Rena Mehta has completed her Ph.D. in the field of Apparel & Textiles from IIS University, Jaipur. She has completed her M.Sc. from M.S. University Vadodara. She has teaching experience of 14 years in academics and research with several International & National Research Publications in the field of Fashion, Apparel & Textiles. She has served IIS University Jaipur for more than ten years and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal for two years in the capacity of Associate Professor. She has also worked on government-funded projects by agencies like the University Grants Commission, Textile Committee, Ministry of Textiles, and Khadi Gramya. Also, to her credit are two Industrial Design Patents and two literary copyrights. Her areas of interest include Research, Craft Documentation, Draping, Indian Textiles, Textile Dyeing & Printing, and Textile Chemistry.

BA in English Literature from ICG Jaipur; B.Des.(Fashion Design) NIFT Chennai. She is an alumna of Goldsmiths College, University of London, London.

She is a design consultant and educator with long standing work experience in the field of: design, craft & social entrepreneurship and design education, aspiring to make a sincere contribution to the development of craft sector in India. She has more than 15 years of experience in apparel industry working as a designer for both domestic and International brands like Gap, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Anthropologie, D.C. Shoes, etc.
Swati cofounded a craft based social enterprise in Jaipur that was founded upon the vision of reviving rich Indian art and craft and to support the artisans and rural population with sustainable employment. She has been a consultant to craft based brands like Ratan textiles, Jaipur in the area of Brand strategy, Operations planning, Visual merchandizing etc.
Her interest areas are- Crafts, Sustainable Fashion & livelihoods, Responsible consumption & production, Business Modelling, Travelling and Food.

He started his career as designer in 2004. Later he joined NIFT, Gandhinagar as Assistant Professor in 2006. He has keen interest in geometry & its application. By using computational design tools he designed and executed the interior of a restaurant. As part of the bridge programme (NIFT,UG, 2015), he developed a MOOC “3D Geometry for Product Designer”. She has more than 8 years of experience working in the industry with brands like Portico and Welspun, and various export houses, she has majorly worked in the textile and garments sector. She started her academic journey by joining the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design from 2013. She has been handling and teaching in Soft material Design and also contributed to the establishment of the Fashion Design Department at IICD.

Dr. Kingshuk Mukherjee is an alumnus of the prestigious Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi. He completed his Master’s Degree (M.F.Tech.) from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata. He holds a Ph.D. in Design from Banasthali University, Rajasthan.
While at NIFT, he worked closely in the development of craft/textiles clusters and government schemes for the marketing of crafts at Bolpur, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. He started his professional career working as a Visual Merchandiser in the Fashion Retail Industry. He has created store displays for reputed Brands like Pantaloons, United Colors of Benetton, and Reebok.

As a seasoned Academician, he has taught in various Academic Institutes which includes JD Institute of Fashion Technology (Delhi), Satyam Fashion Institute (Delhi) and Raffles Millennium International (Delhi), Banasthali Vidyapith (Rajasthan), Mody University (Rajasthan), Indian Institute of Gems and Jewelry (Rajasthan) and Vishwakarma University (Pune). He has worked in the capacity of Dean in the School of Arts and Design, Woxsen University, Hyderabad.

Apart from teaching, Dr. Mukherjee has written course contents on ‘Apparel Merchandising’ for IGNOU, New Delhi. He has also developed and reviewed course curriculum for several Universities. He is a registered ‘Reviewer of Book Proposals’ with several International Research Journals and publications.

He has organized several fashion shows including the prestigious Consortium of Green Fashion at MS University, Vadodara in the year 2016. Apart from Fashion shows, he has organized Workshops and seminars at various educational institutions.
He has published a book, titled ‘E-Commerce in India – Special Reference: Indian Fashion Industry’. Apart from the book, he has manuscript publications in several National as well as International Journals and has presented in various National as well as international conferences.

MFM (Masters in Fashion Management) from NIFT, New Delhi; BTM (Hons.) (Bachelors in Tourism Management) from IITTM, Gwalior. He has also attended executive education program on ‘Luxury and Lifestyle Businesses’ from IIM Ahmedabad.

He has a rich decade long experience in crafts education, artisan outreach and had anchored the pioneering program ‘Crafting Luxury and Lifestyle Businesses’ at IICD along with IIM, Ahmedabad – a unique program for young entrepreneurs who wish to build strong, conscious global businesses that are deeply influenced by Indian heritage and artisanal craftsmanship. He is an experienced design management professional and a Sahapedia -UNESCO Fellow. His areas of interest are business design, user research, circular design, traditional knowledge and innovations in the creative & cultural goods industry. He actively consults and mentors craft-based startups. Prior to moving into academia, he worked with a prominent apparel brand, handling their sales and product management.

Architect & Urban Planner by academic qualification. She has over 21 years of Industrial and Academic experience in the various Architecture Schools. She started her design and manufacturing studio for Textiles and Garments in 2010. In 2016 published her first book “Jaipur Patterns: Colouring Book for Adults Inspired by Doors of City Palace Jaipur”. She has also worked as a consultant for surface print designing for various brands. She also has a keen interest in Natural Dyes and has been experimenting on the same for the last 2 years.

MVA (painting) from Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata (University of Calcutta); currently pursuing a PhD in painting (terracotta relief tiles of Bardhman district) from the University of Calcutta.

He started his career as a freelance artist in 2010, moving on to education as a faculty member at The IIS University, Jaipur from 2012 to 2014, he has worked with Rawat PG Girls College, Manipal University, Jaipur before coming to IICD. He is a founding member and secretary of Pratibha Educational Development and Research Society, Jaipur. Besides this, he is also working as a professional artist.

His many paintings are in collections of Indian government offices like JDA Jaipur, income tax office and also abroad. He had participated in numerous national and international exhibitions and workshops. He had done many art and design related government projects with IICD.

She started her career in 2011 as a Craft Designer with key expertise in product design, research, and documentation of various craft processes. She moved into education sector with IICD, Jaipur in the year 2013, currently she is teaching as faculty member in the Hard Material Department. She has knowledge in the domain of stone, bamboo, wood, metal & ceramics. As an educator, she believes in the explorative approach in design with more sensitivity towards materials and techniques. She has handled various workshops and projects in the areas of product design, craft cluster development, artisan training, and research.

She has worked in the fashion and handicraft industry for over 9 years and holds experience in entrepreneurship, costume, accessories and graphic design. She has worked with various Indian and international brands, design houses and SHGs in the apparel sector. Her concern for the Indian crafts and craftspeople motivated her to venture into academics at IICD. As a design educator at IICD, she is associated with the Foundation department and takes different Graphic Design modules across all departments.

She has done projects with organisations like People Tree, RangSutra, Trifed Jaipur, Sadhna Udaipur, Rangotri Jaipur (Vikaram Joshi), National Museum, Delhi and IKEA.

He has been working in the industry for the past ten years and has been teaching in IICD since 2013. He has done various projects; The Mumbai International Project (MIAL) and the Human Resource Department (HRD) to name a few.

Rajesh started his professional career in 2004 and has more than 17 years of work experience in Industry and Academics. He has also worked as Design Consultant to EPFO, Govt. of India.

Since childhood, Ravinder was fascinated by Craft & Design. In his schooling phase, he was introduced to Textile Design which led him to the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad. There he studied Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories Design. The urge of exploring Glass and ceramic materials took him to Goodearth Pvt. Ltd., where he explored the diversity of crafts. Afterward, his zeal moved him to Ahmedabad where he pursued his Post Graduation in Glass and Ceramic Design from the National Institute of Design. Later on, his curiosity about exploring the variety of areas took him to Banana Pottery Studios, Oasis Ceramics, and Klove Studios and then he started his studio named Cocoboro and experimented on glass flamework. He then began his academic journey in 2019, starting from Bhawar Rathode Design Studio and then moved to Presidency University, Bangalore. Currently, he is using his experiences in his experimentation and teaching at the Indian Institute of Craft and Design (IICD), Jaipur. His areas of expertise are Glass material & Flamework, glass studio setup, hand-building processes for ceramics and glass production, design process, and industrial design.

Vinayak Sharma is a NIFT, New Delhi graduate in Fashion & Apparel Design. He has worked as a menswear designer for the Indian menswear brand- ColorPlus by Raymond. He is an entrepreneur at heart, so he Co-founded Cotton Rack, a premium handspun womenswear clothing brand where he handled quality, brand building (marketing), consumer experience, and sales channel growth for close to 8 years. The company is India’s only institutionally funded private handspun clothing company.

At IICD, he aims at passing on the same entrepreneurial spirit to students along with helping the Institution to increase its reach.

4 years Under Graduate Professional Diploma in Craft Design (Fired Material Application) from Indian Institute of Crafts & Design, Jaipur (IICD).

She began her career by convening workshops in ‘clay’ under her brand name ‘Chaak o Dori’ for children as well as adults in several schools and institutes in Rajasthan. She has also been a visiting faculty at NID, Kurukshetra. She focuses on ‘sustainability’, usage of basic material and methods along with material combination. She has also worked with prominent ceramic ware companies i.e. TATA Ceramics, Dileep Industries and Clay Craft. Other interests include material exploration/experimentation, photography, filming, etc. At IICD, she is also a member of Newsletter team.
